MANE opened on Hillsborough Street in May 2024, in the commercial corridor between downtown and NC State. Owner Doris Gonzalez had been doing hair in Raleigh for about a dozen years by then. First under a mentor at another salon, then four years working independently. She told Voyage Raleigh that the independent stretch eventually started to feel solitary, and that she wanted to build a salon she could mentor other stylists inside of. The Hillsborough Street suite is what came of that.
The work is color-led. Almost every stylist on the team lists some version of dimensional color as a specialty: lived-in blondes, dimensional brunettes, reds and coppers, vivids, color correction. Two stylists are extension-certified. The product wall reads professional rather than retail, with Davines, Redken, COLOR WOW, and K18 in rotation. Madison Holland holds the Team Educator title, which in practice means newer stylists are brought up through structured technique training rather than learning on paying clients. That kind of role isn’t standard at a two-year-old salon, and it’s a real signal.
Practical notes. MANE doesn’t publish prices. The menu lists “price varies depending on stylist,” which reflects the tiered structure (junior, stylist, senior, master, lead) rather than opacity. The complimentary consultation is the right place to settle on a number before booking. Booking runs through Square Appointments online, or by phone at (919) 503-7755. The salon keeps full evening hours Monday through Friday and a half-day Saturday, closed Sundays. Cancellation policy is 48 hours.
