Highlights in Raleigh, NC

8 salons on the directory.

Foiled highlights remain the cleanest tool for evenly-distributed brightening, especially on shorter cuts and tighter regrowth windows. The work is sectioned, predictable, and easier to reproduce visit to visit.

The salons on this guide use highlights as part of a hybrid strategy more often than as a standalone service. If you want pure foiled work, MANE Salon on Hillsborough Street is the most rigorous. For a softer foil-and-balayage blend, look at Pinup Studio (Falls of Neuse) or Ritual Hair Company (Five Points).

Questions we hear
most often.

Highlights are sectioned and foiled. Balayage is hand-painted and open-air. Foilayage is the in-between — hand-painted but wrapped in foil for extra lift. Most contemporary work blends all three within a single appointment.

Pure foiled highlights typically need a refresh every six to eight weeks. Blended approaches stretch to ten to twelve. If you're booking less frequently, ask whether the technique can be adjusted.

Yes — two or three, with notes on what you specifically like about each one. A skilled colorist will tell you which parts are achievable on your hair and which aren't.
